Brands of Watches

The purpose of this page is to answer common questions about different brands of watches, NOT to determine which watches are better than others.  If the watch that you are interested in is not on this page, feel free to send an email to us with your questions about that certain brand of watch.

Important considerations when choosing a watch:

1)  What do you want out of your watch?

Do you just want something to tell the time or do you want something      that is elegant and classy?  Make sure to choose a watch that gives you      everything you want.

2)  How reliable is a particular brand?

If it is an little-known inexpensive brand, it probably contains a low      grade movement.  Keep in mind, there is probably a good reason you      have not heard of that brand.  For under $75, do not expect a high      quality watch.  This may mean that a watch will run for only a year or two      and rarely more than five.  Just remember the law of averages when      buying inexpensive watches.

3)  Can you suggest an inexpensive but reliable watch?

If you are looking to spend between $75 and $200, Seiko and its equivalent companies (Citizen, Pulsar, Noblia, Lorus) are excellent buys.  These watches run for years with little to no service needed.  The Lassale line is somewhat more expensive.  If you like the look, it is worth it.

4)  Is it worthwhile to spend more than $200 for a watch?

When you find watches between $250 and $500, these are on name      recognition and appearance of the watch.  Frequently, THIS IS      IMPORTANT TO PEOPLE.  If you are one who values what you wear,      do not shy away from this price range.  Gucci, Seiko Lassale, some Geneve and Universal Geneve, and ESQ are good watches in this price range.

5)  What about Hi-end, up-scale watches?

High-end watches include Rado, Raymond Weil, Movado, Rolex,      Concord, Corum, Piaget, and several others.  These are all good      quality watches.  You are paying for the appearance of the watch, the gold, platinum, titanium and/or diamonds that go in the band, on the dial or casing, and the company name.  The movements in these watches are more upscale and complex.
